Give in to your wanderlust this Spring!

Spring is on its way, and in many parts of the world, it makes a grand entrance with beautiful blooms, fresh crisp air that finally doesn’t bite, and a sense of optimism.  People seem to lighten up in Spring, cities take on a livelier vibe, and the countryside gets a fresh coat of colour.  Travelling in Spring usually means avoiding the madness of school holidays and peak-season prices.  Ready to pack your bags? Here are some travel destinations that are absolutely lovely in Spring.

Kyoto, Japan

Perhaps no other flower is associated with Spring like the Cherry Blossom, or Sakura, and very few countries take ‘Cherry Blossom Viewing’ quite as seriously as the Japanese.  Hanami is, quite simply put, the appreciation of flowers. Kyoto is one of the most scenic cities to be in, with its ancient temples, busy streets, and parks that bloom pink with Sakura flowers. Locals and tourists alike gather under the trees to appreciate the transient flowers with snacks, Asahi beer, and lots of Selfies.

Treat yourself to a gastronomically delightful Kaisaki, the Japanese haute-cuisine that involves multiple courses of the finest seasonal produce prepared in the most sophisticated ways.

Andalucia, Spain

Spring brings perfect weather to one of the most alluring regions in Spain.  From Granada to Seville, enjoy warm weather that hasn’t yet become scorching hot, and the Semana Santa (Holy Week) parades to soak in some festive spirit.  Andalucia is teeming with gorgeous architecture that is heavily influenced by the Moorish culture. Spend your days and weeks being awe-inspired by its palaces and cathedrals, wander down charming narrow streets, learn its divine music and flamenco dance, and tuck into some of the best Tapas you’ve ever had.

Holland

Holland’s Keukenhof is a very large real-life painting.  More than 7 million tulip bulbs are in bloom, and that makes more than 800 varieties of tulips. You probably didn’t know that there are hundreds of varieties of tulips, but now you do, and you want to see them all. You’ll find yourself in a cyclist’s paradise.  Rent a bike and cruise through Amsterdam to soak in the exuberance of a city that welcomes Spring with much zest.

Hawaii

Hawaii is mostly associated with summer, but that’s when prices and temperatures soar above what you may be comfortable with.  Although there isn’t a Spring season in Hawaii, now would be an ideal time to visit as the experience that you get in Hawaii would be similar to the Springtime experience in our other destinations. Low rainfall and fine weather characterise these Hawaiian months, making it truly is the best time for beachside strolls without the crowd and a dip in the beautiful Hawaiian waters.  With an abundance of fresh flowers and fruit around the island, Hawaiian ‘Springtime’ is an experience you won’t want to miss.

Croatia

Spring in Croatia is glorious. The Mediterranean jewel sparkles with life and perfect weather, just before the crowds come in summer, which can be intensely hot.  The coastal cities of Croatia have always been the top draw and for a good reason.  From the Sea Organs in Zadar to the romance of Split and Dubrovnik, Croatia’s coastal scenic view is set to take your breath away. Thanks to the relatively small size of the country, cross-country travel is a breeze.  Don’t be in such a hurry to make a beeline for the Southern coast, for Northern Croatia’s national parks are stunning. Did you like the scenes from  ‘Game of Thrones’?  You’ll love National Park Sjeverni Velebit, featured in the series.
