Those who miss Bangkok’s Terminal 21, this mall will sufficiently fill that void.

Early next year, all of us would have a new reason to visit JB. For now, the snaking traffic at Woodlands and the impending tourist tax might deter our countless trips to and fro. But soon, we’ll probably be heading there every other weekend.

From the advantageous exchange rate and affordable cinema tickets, JB has been the perfect Singaporean weekend. Thanks to its fantastic shopping and food options, Komtar JBCC is so popular with us, but wait till you see what’s in store!

Capital 21 is expected to open mid-2018 and is likely to win you over with their themed levels. Expected to span across a gross floor area of 1 million sq ft, the mall will be part of a mixed-use development – which includes 2 hotels and a residential component.

For those who miss Bangkok’s Terminal 21, this mall will sufficiently fill that void.

6 out of 11 storeys of the mall are themed to simulate a trip to a different country, and your wanderlust is sure to be appeased as you admire the detailed decor of Capital 21.

Once through the customs, it takes only 15 minutes to get to Tampoi before reaching Capital 21, which is located at the heart of central JB. Here’s a sneak peek at the insides of the mall, while we patiently wait to witness it with our own eyes.

Upper Ground Floor – American Themed

The US lawmakers have already assured us of Trump’s Asia policy, but if a trip to America is still not on your list then this American themed storey is probably a good trade-off.

You can expect “American-Branded fashion” labels, but it’s probably best we set our sights low that it is just H&M and Forever 21 outlets rather than the bigger ones like Urban Outfitters.

And we all know what big fans the Westerners are of al-fresco dining – so the level will definitely feature an outdoor dining and shopping concept sans air-conditioning.

First Floor – Europe Themed

This level will feature what we love most about our travels to Europe – their architecture.

And likewise, there will be an outdoor dining option, staying true to the European culture.

Just don’t expect to experience Rome, Switzerland or Amsterdam all in one level – probably only food-wise.

Second Floor – Oceania Theme

If you’re as confused as we were with the “Oceania” theme, it is actually their Australian themed level. You can also see a mini version of the Sydney harbour bridge here.

There are food takeaway counters, an “Ocenia-themed” hypermarket and a public theatre.

We can expect this to be where most of us will be heading after all the shopping and exploring.

Third Floor – Asian Theme

Expect the little ones to be drawn to this level since it will feature a Kidzania lookalike, essentially an indoor theme park where kids can experience having “real occupations” for a day.

The neon lights and the flashing advertisements will remind you of little Tokyo in Jurong Point but definitely a bigger and better experience.

Fourth Floor – African Theme

You can’t take photos of animals in the wild here, but this level will have some form of lush greenery to mimic a safari experience.

The level will house their second cineplex and an African-safari food court. We reckon it should be similar to an air-conditioned Madagascar World.

Eleventh Floor – World Museum

Home to a convention centre, this is the place to go if you’re not much of a shopper. There’s a “hype park” as well as a World Museum that allows you to experience 21 different cultures. Perfect for escaping the crowds and having a dose of culture.

We all know how the real estate situation in JB can lack efficiency, which is why we’re a tad apprehensive on the reality of this mall. But fortunately for us, more than 60% of the retail space is taken up, a sign that the development is on the right path. Meanwhile, we just have to wait.
