Good news for those planning a trip London – you can fly to London Gatwick Airport from Singapore from less than $200 from September! Norwegian air, the ‘world’s best low-cost long haul airline’ plans to start non-stop flights between Changi Airport and Gatwick Airport on September 28 this year, Changi Airport Group stated in a press release. This will be the second low-cost service, the other one being Scoot which offers flights to Athens, by any carrier from Singapore to Europe.
A one-way economy class ticket to London starts from $199, and a one-way premium class ticket starts from $839 – including all taxes and fees. Of course, a few catches are expected – you may have to pay for ‘luxurious’ such as meal service and luggage storage, as it does currently on its New York to UK flights. All said, it is still a pretty good deal!
Norwegian air will be flying to London on a four-times weekly service, and this will increase to five-times weekly during Northern winter season from October to March the following year. The flights will be offered by the airline’s United Kingdom (UK) subsidiary called Norwegian UK (NUK) using Gatwick crew.
Currently, London is Changi Airport’s 14th busiest route, with more than 1.2 million passengers travelling between Singapore and London in 2016. The press release also stated that the new airline service would mean a 11 per cent increase of one-way seats weekly.
Norwegian air has seen high demand for cheap long-haul travel on its transatlantic lights, including flights from the UK to US. However, this is its first route to Asia from the UK .
Norwegian chief executive office Bjorn Kjos also said that “Travel should be affordable for all so adding Singapore to our growing UK network will give passengers even more choice for affordable, quality travel to a range of global destinations “, as reported by The Straits Times.
