SingPost is introducing a new initiative – SmartPost, in a bid to increase the quality of its service as well as operational efficiency.

It will put the local postal company on the frontier in harnessing wireless and digital technologies.

SmartPost is an integration of near-field communication (NFC), radio frequency identification (RFID), digital imaging and electronic notifications.

The postal staff from SingPost will also be equipped with the relevant skills and tools needed in order to increase their efficiency and capabilities in carrying out all forms of postal operations such as collection to sorting.

Bringing About A New Digital Age

Mr Paul Coutts, SingPost’s Group Chief Executive Officer who just joined the company recently, said “SmartPost has been designed to help our postal team work better and smarter, enhancing their capabilities and efficiency for the digital age.”

“We are starting at the last mile as this is the most vital and demanding part of our business. At the end of the day, we are only as good as our last mile delivery and this will improve our customers’ overall experience,” he continued.

First Phase

The first phase of SmartPost will focus on the delivery of registered mail, SmartPac and other postal items that can be tracked.

Smartphones loaded with a customised postal delivery app will be issued to postmen to help them keep track of deliveries that have been made as well as generate real-time prompts of the standard operating procedures.

Operational information will be provided to the postmen, in order to achieve higher standards of service.

How Can Customers Benefit

Online shoppers, rejoice! SmartPost will offer delivery status updates by SMS or email, as well as receive notifications on where they should head down to collect their items in the event that they have missed their delivery.

SingPost will be doing away with their physical delivery slips – customers can collect the items directly at the post office with an electronic notice on their mobile device.

This will ensure that customers are constantly updated on the status of their items, giving them an ease of mind.

The new SmartPost initiative should come as a welcome news especially for disgruntled customers who have experienced poor delivery services with SingPost.

Further solutions to improve the other aspects of the postal operation are still underway, but they could make SingPost one of the most technological advanced postal services in the world.

Application, system and infrastructure development is underway in preparation for the rollout that will commence later this year and is targeted to be completed by March 2019.
