If bands like Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Mayday Parade or even Avenged Sevenfold bring back nostalgic memories, we might have the perfect event for you.

Spontaneous karaoke sessions with Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’, mesmerizing drum beats, and face melting guitar riffs— it’s all in a night with EMONIGHTSG.

At EMONIGHTSG, you can expect a night-long of raving to your favourite hits being played by various DJs headlining the event (Source). It’s the epitome of clubbing and the ultimate rock show experience.

Happening every first Thursday of the month, it has undeniably earned their spot amongst avid pop-punk fans’ hearts.

I for one, look forward to the beginning of every month simply because of the superb tunes and concert-like ambience of the event. As My Chemical Romance would say it, you literally ‘sing it till you’re nuts’.

How it all began

EMONIGHTSG was conceived when Bryan Sta Maria, Amelina Chen, Ritz Ang and Edwin Walliman chanced upon a series of misfitted band tees, which made them remember how songs from those bands impacted them before (Source).

Debuting their first night in the summer of 2015, the success of the event has warranted its 12th successful run in August 2017.

With a goal in mind to relive the ‘emo’ era in their secondary school days, the quartet saw the opportunity to bring alternative music into the local party scene and the rest is history.

EMONIGHTSG originated from its predecessor; Emo Nite L.A. which has been a thing in the States since 2014. Notable acts like Demi Lovato, All-American Rejects, and other big names have performed at the club situated in L.A, which wasn’t long until the popularity of the gig blew out of proportions.

What to Expect

Past successful renditions saw fans of My Chemical Romance, Britney Spears, and Linkin Park flock to the occasional themed nights.

Foreign acts were never shied away from the local’s take of this music festivity, even attracting Yellowcard’s frontman Ryan Key to headline one of the acts last year.

Forget the cliche of the heart-throbbing electronic music (which makes me a little nauseous at times, to be honest) that you’d no doubt experience at Zouk, get ready for a blast to the past.

If the word ‘Paramore’ gets you just as equally excited as I am, then you’re in for a treat.

Where & When

In case you didn’t know, Refuge has been relocated to the basement of Chijmes which is now conveniently situated right smack in the middle of town.

So if you’re anything like me, an enthusiast of pop-punk (who also irks at the PSI:400-like air quality outside Zouk), EMONIGHTSG at Refuge is the way to go.

A midweek breather, a scratch to an itch; EMONIGHTSG is a monthly affair that happens on the first Thursday of every month, With the next rock-out session planned to unfold on the 7th of Sep, 2017.

Mark your calendars for you don’t want to wait an entire month for the next one.
