Joke’s on you.
There is the saying that you should never trust anything you read on the Internet, especially on April Fools Day. From fake news, to getting us hyped about a non-existent product, April Fools Jokes have become a yearly affair for brands to come up with the best pranks, as a sneaky PR stunt of course!
Whoever said April Fools was limited to children? Here, we picked out 8 of the best:
1. Petlexa (Amazon Echo Commercial)
Amazon introduced Petlexa on April Fools, and it is actually pretty amazing. The said technology boasts being able to comprehend what your pet is saying. Be it your dog, hamster or cat, Petlexa is able to understand and respond to your pets and even grant their requests.
And we are kind of waiting for the day that this would actually happen.
2. Emirates Triple-Decker APR001
Emirates had us all fooled. The airline company unveiled on 1st April its plans to build the world’s largest commercial Aircraft. The prank by Emirates was retweeted more than 10,000 times, talk about going viral.

Perhaps the reason why we were so quick to believe this joke could be because Emirates was ranked top in the The World’s Top 100 Airlines – 2016 list by World Airline Awards.
But even so, now that we think about it, it is hard to imagine having a swimming pool, games room, gym and a park in an aeroplane. Perhaps some time in 2050?
3. Burger King’s Whopper Toothpaste
If you love BK’s famous Whopper, then you’ll have to love this one. For this year’s April fools, Burger King came up with an ad for the release of it’s new Whopper toothpaste.
Whopper breath? We’re not too sure about that.
This prank received mixed reactions, with some who loved it and others who found it weak. Still, kudos to Burger King for the effort.
There were those who hated it.
And, those who loved it.
4. Snapchat- Instagram For A Day
Perhaps one of the best pranks of 2017 goes to Snapchat.
As we all know Instagram did not bother being discreet about copying Snapchat’s original “stories” idea by naming their version “Instagram stories”. Ouch.
On 1st April, Snapchat came up with a subtle yet genius way to get back at Instagram- by making an insta filter available for a day.
This filter allows your snap to look just like a post on Instagram. I think we can all agree that this in-your-face prank is probably one of the best for this April Fools’ Day.
5. Neo Garden Curry Lipstick
This local catering company went all out with their April fools joke. Neo Garden launched “Curry Bombshell”— a lipstick made with ingredients from their signature curry chicken. The lipstick was described as being made from 100% natural ingredients (curry leaves?), as well as being paraben-free.
To further increase the credibility of their allegedly new product, Neo Garden even hosted a genuine giveaway. The fake product was not popular with netizens, but, at least they fell for it.
6. Google Maps’ Ms. Pac-Man Game
Google is known for their creative April fools pranks. This year, the tech company revived an old April Fools prank- the Ms. Pac-Man game for Google Maps. This allows users to convert their street into a Ms. Pac-Man game as long as there are enough roads on the map. The game is so realistic that it has the ghosts, sound effects, and music
7. Krispy Kreme’s Got A New Name
We’ve all pronounced Krispy Kreme as “cream”. So, the company famous for its doughnuts decided that they were changing “Kreme” to “Cream”. They announced the change on their Twitter, and yes, people fell for it.

8. Ikea – From A Playground To A “Press-Play-Ground”
The last prank on our list, but definitely not the least, is brilliant. Initially, this new scheme got many netizens raging, until Ikea announced that it was merely in the spirit of April Fools’ day.
Basically, Ikea posted on their Facebook that they were going to transform Småland from a playground into a ‘press-play-ground’- essentially replacing the current magical forest playground with a haven of sitting pods with tablets.
Many criticised this new concept by Ikea until it was revealed that it was all part of their April fools joke.
Here are some comments from those who weren’t too pleased with the new transformation:
Later on, many praised the prank as being an eye-opener to the reality of children spending too much time on their electronic devices.
Also, bonus points for Ikea on their creative comebacks!
Here are 2 more pranks from previous years that were so good, we just had to add to this list!
9. Jetstar’s Singlish Flight (2016)
Remember when Jetstar Asia claimed that Singlish would be used on all flights? This one’s a classic we just had to add to this list.
The prank was very well received.
In fact, it got so much attention that Jetstar actually made it happen, on 9th August, National Day.
10. Zalora (2015)
This prank video by Zalora speaks for itself.
Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. We fell for it too.
So there you have it, a list of April Fools Jokes. We can’t wait to see next year’s string of pranks!
