It’s not just about the shopping!
Bangkok is the kind of place that warrants repeat visits. From cheap shopping and amazing food to off-the-beaten-path adventures, Bangkok truly has something for everyone.
If you are a bit of an adventure seeking traveller, or just looking for a different experience altogether, these alternative accommodations may be what you are looking for- and more!
1. POD Hostel Cafe Designshop
I am sure you have heard of the capsule/pod hostel craze. It has swept through Asia for the last few years and it certainly hasn’t skipped Bangkok. The idea of sleeping in a pod might feel a little claustrophobic for some, but it is a cool alternative solution to having some ‘privacy’ on the cheap. Pod Hostel Cafe Designshop is designed to have an industrial chic vibe. This hostel also provides air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi in all the rooms. The cafe is super hip, with bikes hanging from the walls, computer workstations and a comfy sofa area to chill and to meet new friends. Pod Hostel Cafe is also conveniently located – just minutes away from the Victory Monument.

2. Bangkok Tree House
Though it is outside of the city centre, Bangkok Tree House is perfect for those looking for an alternative experience. This ‘tree house’ allows you to sleep under the stars – without giving up any modern comforts like Wi-Fi, free bicycle rental and ice-cream all day long! It is also extremely environmentally friendly. They use solar power, juice carton insulation, locally sourced produce and use leaves to write their receipts! If you are visiting during the weekend, be sure to check out the Bang Nampheung floating market. Despite the seclusion, you can still get to downtown Bangkok by public transport. A quiet and cool place to stay while having the option to take in all the action of the city – definitely a winning combination for me!

3. Shanghai Mansion
Shanghai mansion is built on one of the first nine-story buildings from Chinatown’s early days in the Yaowarat district. Today, it is decorated to mimic the style of a Shanghai merchant’s house – a heavy dose of red and plenty of lanterns. Touting itself as the only Boutique Hotel in Chinatown, this hotel does a good job of serving up a slice of 1930s China in the heart of Bangkok. The rooms are gorgeously made up and are generously sized, and there is plenty of facilities to keep you occupied with a jazz bar, spa and even a Chinese restaurant!
