You can now make freshly brewed aromatic coffee anytime, anywhere.
83% of adults in the US drink coffee. What the other 17% is doing, I honestly have no idea. Coffee has one of the most benefits in the world, and I love coffee, period.
In this busy lifestyle that most of us lead, instant coffee seems like the ultimate life-saver. 3-in-1 coffee? Even better, we get it. But do you know that all these “instant coffee” products lose about 9% of caffeine. Sadly, no one has the time or energy to lug cafe-style bulky, espresso machine around everywhere and buying coffee outside can be super expensive as well.
With innovation, all things are possible. So here are 4 genius and portable coffee products below $100 that you probably don’t know about. Thankfully, these are all available in Singapore as well.
Minipresso
This is what every coffee lover needs. Whatever mechanism that gives that latte and cappuccino that “airy yet dense” taste is in this “compact, lightweight and versatile” tumbler-like machine. It weighs about 360 grams. That’s the weight of your grande Starbucks drink! :O
Without going too much into the details, this machine pumps about 8 bars of air, maximising the coffee extraction process that gives it just enough “cafe-style” coffee taste. Just for reference, a normal espresso machine pumps about 9 bars of air and requires compressed air, N2O cartridge and electricity. That’s too much to handle for a cup of morning coffee. Your daily coffee beverage will no longer be that thin, kopi-O consistency anymore. (not that kopi-o is bad!)
This mini espresso machine allows you to use both freshly grounded coffee beans or coffee capsules. Simply place your choice of coffee bean/capsule into the “filter basket”, lock it in, add hot water and “pump” your espresso out. The way your coffee is “squeezed” out is not necessarily the most glamorous (aesthetically and sound-wise), but it works.
This will be great for last minute studying sessions at the library where you don’t necessarily have the accessibility to beverages’ machine around. Or when you’re on a hike, running, cycling or fishing. You could literally make your very own espresso on the plane without calling out to the flight attendant. Or really, with minipresso, you have essentially brought the pantry to your table.

Aeropress
Aeropress is for those that don’t mind spending that extra time churning out your coffee. It essentially works like a French-press but on another level. Aeropress features the basic level of coffee-extraction. The ground coffee are merely soaking in hot-water. Of course, with that the extraction process is nowhere near the highly-pressured air mechanism.
With Aeropress, however, it adds the element of pressure that helps to extract the coffee flavour more boldly than french-presses. This would be less acidic taste compared to your conventional espresso methods as well—apparently by ⅕. Bold but not too acidic.
The aeropress works somewhat like minipresso except that you would have to spend a little more time. Instead of “pumping air” immediately, you have to wait for the ground coffee to “brew” and 4-5 minutes later, push the plunger down through the filter. That might make your coffee a little more tastier, though.
We would say this is better for your lazy weekend brunch time with a mini arm workout included 😉

Dripo Cold Brew Portable Ice Drip
This one is a real winner for me as Dripo is by gosh!, a company based in Singapore. We’ve seen cold-brew coffee around and widely talked about. It seems like a slow process that might not be worth it. But, gosh! makes Dripo look so easy and convenient with the compartments for your ice, ground coffee and coffee separated nicely for you IN A TUMBLR.
2 steps and you are done.
All you need to do is prepare your brew at night and wala, the next morning, you have a cold-brew drink at it’s bestest.

Milk Frothing
If you like your coffee with milk, a milk frother is definitely necessary. That gives the “smooth” taste that very well complements the bold roast. With a separate milk frother, you can bring your frothy and creamy milk wherever you go. Be it for your coffee, or even your tea.
Or, if you want something more portable to match your minipresso or aeropress during your camp trips, a hand-held milk frother would do the job as well.
Bonus: French-press and what it can actually do
We will not go into the details as most of us would know what a French-Press is. Other than just using your French Press for your ground coffee, you can actually use it to create your “froth milk”.
The only flaw about all these products is that they don’t boil the water for you.
