If your plans for the weekend involves going into town, then you’re in for a treat.

Orchard road has been in the spotlight recently, when plans to turn the shopping street into a fully pedestrianised one were unveiled – starting with a fiesta this weekend. Organized by Orchard Road Business Association, the fiesta aims to draw more people to the shopping district whilst testing the waters for Orchard road’s rejuvenation programme.

But onto the fun stuff. Called Fiesta on a Great Street, it will feature pop-up events and food and beverages establishments. Those going down will be treated to a taste of brands you don’t usually see on Orchard Road. Expect food from Good Chance Popiah and 5 local food gourmets – with 20% of their sales going to the Singapore Red Cross.

There’ll also be chefs holding master classes if you feel like watching a demonstration and maybe pick up some of their tricks.

It is not just merely food – the month-long event will offer other special shopping promotions and performances! While those frequent Orchard Road trawlers know that this is not the street’s first pedestrian night, this will certainly be the biggest one yet.

Starting from Takashimaya Shopping Centre all the way to Hotel Jen Orchard Gateway, the stretch of road will be a multi-purpose space where diverse and larger-scale experiential concepts are introduced.

With our retail scene still in a slump, it’s not surprising that more of these unique retail events are popping up – which is also in line with the rejuvenation plans for Orchard Road.
