East 1 – 0 West
Easties and Westies are well aware of their tendency to compare the two opposites of Singapore. In fact, we are all secretly keeping scores whenever a new development sprouts up – be it a cafe or a shopping mall.
This time, those residing in the East have one up against their counterpart; the revamped Shell station in Tampines that is pushing the boundaries of what a petrol station should be.
More Than Just Chips And Chocolate Bars
Gone are the days where snacks are the only thing we can look forward to during pitstops at the petrol station. In fact, this Shell station now offers everything a driver could possibly need – an air-conditioned lounge, a new in-store bakery, 24-hour McDonald’s drive-through and a Shell Select store offering the same variety as your usual grocery store.
Think of an all-in-one pitstop, where motorists and cyclists can stop and charge their mobile phones, recharge and curb the hunger pangs. If you’re around the area and want some fries while you refuel your tank – this is the place to be.
Not forgetting the fact that Tampines has an active cycling community, Shell has decided to go the extra mile for cyclists. The station now boasts a bicycle bay, where cyclists can park and do minor repairs.
Aptly called Take A Brake, it is one of the focal points of the new station aimed at serving the needs of the community. After all, it is one of the five cycling towns in Singapore, with a network tracks that give cyclists easy access to amenities such as the MRT station and town centre.
