Tuas isn’t all just industrial buildings and factories y’know!
If Singapore was a fairy tale, Tuas would be the land far, far away, now accessible by our very own pumpkin carriages (read: MRT).
But, enough with the analogical fun. Despite having a track record of train breakdowns, Singapore is getting more and more connected by the minute, and we ought to count our blessings. The brand new Tuas West Extension (TWE) is a case in point—extending from the existing Joo Koon station, not only will the extension benefit the people working there, it will also bring the public faster and closer to the little gems that the industrial area has been obscuring from us. That’s one more weekend to kill if you’ve been on the lookout for some fresh spots to hang at or some new activities to engage in.
And, because we’ve been there only as many times as you’ve been, we did some research to surprise you with the places to visit and the things to do when you eventually find your way to the wild wild west.
1. Kick Back At Tuas’ Secret Beach
Move aside, Lazarus Island, there’s a shore in Tuas contending for the secret beach title. Ensconced in a private corner of Tuas South Avenue 4, expect no more than the basic package of pristine waters and white sand.
Along the horizon where the sky meets the sea, industrial vessels and ships loom; but, strangely enough, they won’t disrupt the panorama or your experience.

2. Eat Your Heart Out At Third Place
A bar, a cafe and an eating house all in one—you will be surprised to find an eating place as hip as Third Place in Tuas.
Boasting a cosy and contemporary warehouse look, the fact that the eating house has no air-conditioning might be a slight miss for those who are afraid of the heat. However, it’s food options will not deter you.
During the day, you will find food akin to those at the hawker centre available at its 12 stalls for an average price of just S$5. Whereas by night, more interesting (and more expensive) zi char options such as their signature salted egg cheese crab are on the menu.

3. Get An Adrenaline Rush At Maxout Hydrosports
Forget about the east’s vainglorious Wild Wild Wet and cool down at Maxout Hydrosports with heart-pumping water activities instead. The thing about the ulu west is that space is in abundance, and Maxout boasts four stunning and extensive water sites that will meet all the wakeboarding, wakeskating or wakesurfing needs of both beginners and pros.
However, if wakeboarding is too extreme for you, you can always opt for their yacht catering service and rent the Carpe Diem, a Trengganu wooden hull motor yacht that won’t cost you more than S$22 per person per hour, and throw yourself a fancy yacht party.

4. Savour Free Flow Beer At The Tiger Brewery Tour
Get acquainted with Singapore’s homegrown and iconic beer at the Tiger Brewery Tour. During this 45-minute tour, you will be shown to the Brew House to discover the four high-quality ingredients used to brew the perfect bottle of beer, as well as the intricate five-step process of beer brewing.
Towards the end of the visit is when things get a little more exciting because you will get the chance to tap your own beer during a hands-on session, and sample the free range of brews available in their charming and rustic tavern for as long as 45 minutes. Did we also mention that these brews will be served fresh from the tap?

5. Take A Scenic Walk Along Raffles Marina’s Promenade
A first-class yachting marina and country club, there’s no doubt that Raffles Marina is a lip-smacking, fancy schmancy spot. For those who aren’t there to learn how to tie boating knots, dine with a view at the country club’s al fresco bistro.
Then, stroll along the promenade to admire the good-looking yachts docked there and snap enviable photos against the picturesque backdrop of the anachronistic but fully-functional Johor Straits Lighthouse, one of the only nine lighthouses that still stands tall in Singapore today.
PROTIP: To get the best shot, head down during evening time for a complimentary sunset skyline.
