This year’s St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival was not the ultimate hippie festival for us Singaporeans. With a relatively underwhelming lineup, it happened to be another round of “rainway” at Singapore’s largest indie festival – not to mention the only one.

While some of us attended the festival with a purpose of discovering new bands, many decided to give it miss entirely. And of course, after such a letdown, we need another indie festival to heal our wounds.

Genting’s Good Vibes Festival has just announced their headliners for their August 2017 edition and you’re in for a treat. For now, the international acts slated to perform include French rock band Phoenix, America’s up-and-coming rapper G-Eazy, Dua Lipa, Lany and Kodaline among other great acts.

Of course, the international acts will also share the spotlight with a few homegrown talents such as RYÖTJONES, Najwa, Jin Hackman, Arabyrd, Talitha Tan and Public School.

Held just a short distance across the causeway, the Good Vibes Festival will be held at Genting, Malaysia. It is already making waves for all the good reasons even before the release of the full lineup. But with their repertoire including the likes of Tame Impala, The 1975 and Two Door Cinema Club, we’re not too worried about it.

With the festival grounds located at Genting’s The Ranch and their “air-con” weather, it’s basically Asia’s ultimate answer to Coachella. There’s a high chance you’ll probably be free from all the sticky bodies and sweaty hair that is ever-present at any music festival on our sunny island.

The festival only recently expanded to a two-day affair and unlike Zouk Out, the tickets are sold only as 2-day passes – which probably means having to spend the night in Genting. A standard ticket will set you back SGD$98 (MYR300) and if you’re too lazy to bother with accommodation yourself, then check out their package ranging from SGD$230 to SGD$290 that comes with a hotel stay at First World, Genting.

From Singapore, there are a few Bus/Travel companies offering daily express direct buses to Genting Higlands. Skip the dodgy ones lest anything goes wrong on your journey up the hill and choose from either this or this. Or if you’re up for it, turn the whole experience into a road trip with your best buds and drive up from Singapore – it’s only a 4 hours drive!
