And our #SGpride is showing.

We are no strangers to new, innovative business ideas. Singapore has been gaining quite the attention for our technological innovations and start-ups. What we haven’t really explored, however, is the automobile industry. But, this first step might just be the right one to trigger a new generation of innovators seeking to shine in the names of sexy, sleek looking cars.

The Dendrobium

Slated to be sold for millions, this supercar is a lighthouse project for Vanda Electrics, an electric two-seater with “four motors powered by Formula E lithium batteries.”

It accelerates at the speed of 0km/h to 100km/h in 2.7 seconds, and boasting an upper speed limit of about 320km/h.

Its dramatic yet not overly excessive design sports an automatic roof and door, which opens in a syncronized way. This is not only designed for aesthetic purposes, but to also allow easier access to the cockpit.

The car also includes a light truck powered by battery packs for the various ranges and a e-scooter that you could take out whenever you need to navigate through the densely populated areas.

This sports car was first announced December last year with minimal information about its actual design and specifications. It was an idea that excited many Singaporeans. With its official showcase at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, we are really feeling the #SGpride this time!

Its official launch at the Geneva Motor Show will finalise their actual entry into markets. According to the Straits Times, the CEO of Vanda Electrics, Larissa Tan said that the Geneva Motor Show is essentially a “litmus test” and the reaction will determine the numbers for production — whether are they in the tens or hundreds.

The Future is Electronic — Vanda Electrics

Behind the lens of this ground-breaking and precedential creation is Vanda Electrics. Vanda Electrics is a local company that wishes to revolutionise the future of transport through more sustainable methods — electric “fuel”.

They are “set to develop electric transportation solutions to capitalize on the global shift towards electric mobility.” At the Motor Show, Larissa Tan mentioned the vision for a “zero emission product for a group of diverse sectors”.

Vanda Electrics is a company that specializes in battery technology, research, innovation and design. It is one of Singapore’s leading e-mobility companies.

Vanda Electrics has partnered up with many international companies in the UK and US, specifically with Williams Advanced Engineering for this particular Dendronium Super car project. They have reportedly invested $10 million to kickstart the project.

Not in Singapore just yet

In an interview with TNP last year, Vanda Electrics reflected that the Dendronium will not be ready for Singapore just yet. Indeed, we’ve seen various headlines about the efforts in the local landscape when it comes to electric-cars and going green. However, in comparison to bigger international markets like in US, China or Europe, the group agreed that the market is a “different situation altogether”.
