The SingPost Centre gets its much needed face lift – complete with a cinema
For those of you residing in the East, you would probably know for a fact that the huge SingPost Centre at Paya Lebar only attracted the lunch crowd or perhaps the occasional walk-ins for postal services.

This news feels like one that’s a long time coming – the SingPost Centre will house a new retail mall on top of their e-commerce activities. With a whole new upgrade, the new mall is set to offer the whole package with a Golden Village cinema, NTUC supermarket and kopitiam among other outlets.
The entire construction project is set to cost about S$150 million, including upgraded amenities and façade for the adjoining office building.
It will house offline brick-and-mortar shops and even online e-merchants to offer greater flexibility in delivery and pickup timings.
The development aims to create business opportunities amidst the changing retail landscape, as well as to cater to the evolving needs of consumers. Imagine an omni-channel building amass with retailers, customers and e-commerce last mile fulfillment – combining online and offline shopping. A smart mall of sorts – with the use of technology and innovation to support smart living environments to help businesses grow.
The Main Star
Not forgetting the main purpose of the building, the building will also feature the new General Post Office of about 3,200 sqf. It combines counter services with technology-enabled innovations such as POPStations and eSAM machines.
Customers will get to enjoy greater flexibility, convenience and hopefully, shorter waiting times. Acting as Singapore’s first one stop logistics outlet, the GPO will continue to open outside normal working hours.
An IPO Funded Redevelopment
The whole facelift costs an estimated $150 billion, but they see it as a crucial investment that will transform Singapore’s mail to global e-commerce logistics.
When the new retail mall comes on-stream, it is expected to revolutionise retail concepts for consumers and retailers alike.
For instance, a consumer could browse in-store, purchase the product and arrange for delivery of the product directly to their home. The consumer could then continue shopping, watch a movie or have a meal in the mall without having to carry bulky shopping bags. The retailer, on the other hand, could save on storage space in the store as fulfilment would be done at the backend of the warehouse
One-Stop Destination
SingPost Centre sits at the heart of Paya Lebar Central, which aims to provide jobs closer to homes, as part of the Government’s decentralization plan. This will help reduce congestion and promote the heartlands as a commercial hubs.
Its close proximity to the Geylang Serai Civic Centre also allows the new space to host a multitude of community events throughout the year, boosting the catchment for the new mall.
